SonicWALL – Ensure default ‘admin’ username is not used

Details

Ensure the default admin username is not used. The default administrator account, admin, is a well known administrator name so if this account is available it could be easier for attackers to access the SonicWALL unit because they know they can log in with this name, only having to determine the password. You can improve security by changing this name to one more difficult for an attacker to guess.

Solution

Navigate to System->Administration->Administrator Name & Password and modify the Administrator name to a non-default value.

This security hardening control applies to the following category of controls within NIST 800-53: Identification and Authentication. This control applies to the following type of system SonicWALL.
