Ensure SNMP does not use an easy to guess or default community string – ‘private’

Solution

In the Web UI , navigate to the ‘System’ section , click on ‘SNMP’ and then click the community string form box. Ensure that the community string is not ‘private’.

This security hardening control applies to the following category of controls within NIST 800-53: Identification and Authentication.This control applies to the following type of system WatchGuard.
