Overview
Automatic temperature controls are installed to prevent temperature fluctuations potentially harmful to personnel or equipment operation.
Threat
Personnel, equipment and media are at risk to damage by heat, condensation, and humidity if temperature controls are not installed that provide an alarm of humidity fluctuations that are potentially harmful.
Guidance
1. Ensure that temperature controls (i.e., thermostats) that are installed in system operational spaces that capable of automatically adjusting temperature to ensure it is kept at that which is prescribed for safe operation of system hardware.
2. Temperature controls shall be equipped with an alarm that alerts system or facilities administrators when temperature fluctuations potentially harmful to personnel or equipment operation are detected.
DoD classifies this control in the subject area of “Physical and Environmental” with a impact of “Medium”.
